What is Coronavirus?
Coronavirus: are a type of virus that affects the respiratory tract of mammals and humans as well. This virus is associated with pneumonia, common cold, SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) and it can also affect your gut.
This virus was isolated in 1937 from a highly infectious virus known as bronchitis in birds and that has the power to harm the poultry stocks. These viruses are also responsible for 20 to 20% of common cold issues. In the last 70 years, scientists only found this virus in animals like rats, cats, dogs, turkeys, pigs, horses, cattle, etc. Most recently, a corona virus outbreak is seen in China that has already reached various other countries as well.
Coronavirus in humans were first found in the 1960s in the noses of the patients who were suffering from common colds. There are 2 corona viruses that are mainly responsible for common colds and they are OC43 and 229E. Humans mostly get infected with this virus at the time of winter and early springs as well.
It is not very uncommon to get ill with a cold that is caused by a corona virus and they will again catch this problem after 4 months. This happens because the antibodies of coronavirus do not last for a long time and the antibodies for one strain will not work for other strains of this virus.
Symptoms of being infected with Coronavirus
Within 2-4 days, you will be able to see cold or flu-like symptoms in your body after this infection. In the beginning, these issues are mild and the symptoms also depend on person to person. Some of these viruses can be fatal as well.
Major Symptoms are as follows:
Sneezing, runny nose, cough, fever (rare), fatigue, sore throat, exacerbated asthma.
The coronavirus in humans cannot be cultivated in the labs easily and this can make it very difficult to measure the impact on the national economy and the health of the public as well. There is no specific cure for these problems and this is the reason that you can take care of yourself by:
Taking proper rest and try to avoid overexertion as much as possible.
Try to drink as much water as possible.
You need to stay away from all the smoky areas and try to quit smoking as well.
You can take naproxen, ibuprofen or acetaminophen if you are unable to deal with your pain and fever.
You should also start using a clean humidifier or cool mist vaporizer.
This virus is generally diagnosed by taking a sample of respiratory fluids, such as mucus from the nose or blood.
Different types of Corona virus
There are various corona viruses in humans and currently, 7 are recognized which can directly affect humans. Common coronaviruses include:
OC43 (beta coronavirus)
HKU1 (beta coronavirus)
229E (alpha corona virus)
NL63 (alpha coronavirus)
More dangerous types of corona viruses include MERS-CoV which is responsible for causing Middle East respiratory syndrome and SARS-CoV, it is responsible for severe acute respiratory syndrome. In 2019 a dangerous strain of coronavirus started circulating and it is not having any official name till now but the officials and authorities are referring it to as novel corona virus 2019.
Transmission of Coronavirus
Coronavirus can transmit in various ways and some of them are given below:
- If someone is coughing and sneezing without covering his mouth and it can disperse droplets into the air and virus will be added into the air.
- By touching or shaking hands with the person who is already infected by the viruses and then he can also pass the virus from one person to another.
- If you make contact with the surface or object that is already infected by the virus and then you are touching your nose or eyes with the same hands. In rarest condition can also spread through contact with faeces.
Americans are more likely to see this disease in the winter or fall. That disease is active during the rest of the year but young people are most likely to contract a coronavirus and they may have to stay infected from at least one coronavirus for all their life. The mutating ability of the coronavirus makes it highly contagious and there is still no specific treatment available for this problem.
Novel corona virus in 2019
Centers for Disease Control and prevention in America started monitoring the outbreak of this new coronavirus and this virus was first identified in China and they only named it as novel Coronavirus. Coronavirus has already infected more than 75000 people in China and to date it has killed more than 2200 people in China alone.
This virus has already reached more than 37 countries across the world. The health authorities have already identified several other people with this virus around the world including multiple people in America only. The World Health Organisation has declared this problem a public health emergency.
People who were infected with Novel corona virus in 2019 violent to the seafood and animals and it was initially suggested that animals were transmitting this virus to humans. But after complete research, it was found that animals or seafood had no connections with the transmission of the virus to a human.
The information on this Coronavirus is really low and this is the reason that so many people are dying just because of this kind of virus. Problems like the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome and severe acute respiratory syndrome are spreading does because of close contacts. It is not completely clear how Coronavirus can rapidly spread.
SARS and MERS
These are highly contagious diseases which are caused by SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV virus respectively. This virus can typically lead to a life-threatening problem called pneumonia and this virus has already started in Southern China and after that, it reached 37 more countries.
The symptoms of both these problems are almost common because a person who is infected with any one of the viruses will experience dry cough, chills, breathlessness diarrhea and body aches. Pneumonia may also develop afterward and at the most advanced stage, your lungs, heart or liver can also fail.
